Self-Care and Compassion for the Counselor by Dr. Veronica M. Wanzer, PhD, LCPC

This one hour presentation invites counselors of all ages and stages of personal/professional development to learn and practice the benefits of self-care and self-compassion for the counselor. Participants will recall the importance of self-love for the helper, develop personal meanings for self-care and self-compassion, as well as share implications for client care. Participants will 1) explore and recall the importance of self-love, care and compassion for counselors, 2) develop person-centered meanings for self-care and self-compassion and 3) share how engaging in self-care and self-compassion practices as a counselor will benefit the clients we serve.

Veronica M. Wanzer, PhD, LCPC, aka, Dr. V, a native New Yorker, has served as a counselor and clinical supervisor in Maryland for over seven years. In 2018, Dr. V graduated with a doctoral degree in Counselor Education and Supervision from Walden University. Her dissertation focused on counselor competence with gender diverse clients. Immediately following graduation, she began her journey as a counselor educator teaching in both Online and traditional Master’s-level counseling programs across the country, engaging with counseling students worldwide! Dr. V’s research interests include social justice, counselor competence, counselor professional identity, self-care, and racialized trauma.  She is actively engaged in various research projects and publication efforts.

        $10 MCA Professional/Life Members 

        $20 Professional Non-members 

Attendees may earn 1 NBCC Credit Hour with the completion of live course evaluation or home study quiz and passing score from recorded content.
