Counseling Research: Opportunities

June 1st, 2022 - May 31st, 2023

“MI-SBQ McGinnis-Ives Spiritual Boundaries Questionnaire”

Hello Fellow Counselor Educator, Mental Health Practitioner, or Student,

My colleague, Dr. Sujata Ives, and I have developed a new spiritual boundaries questionnaire that we believe will be helpful in decision-making for practitioners who question whether spiritual broaching, self-disclosure, or boundary crossing may be warranted.

This research has been approved as “exempt” through the Messiah University Institutional Review Board (IRB) process (2021-061).  Participation in this research is voluntary with the option to withdraw at any time.

The McGinnis-Ives – Spiritual Boundaries Questionnaire (MI-SBQ) is an 18-item multiple choice survey that will provide a scored report that should prove helpful in subsequent reflection and consultation.  Item-by-item interpretation of the ACA (2014) ethical professional codes, ACPE (2022) and ASERVIC (2022) spiritual competencies, and CACREP (2016)  professional standards will also be provided by weblink at the end of the survey.

Your feedback will be elicited at the end of the survey with the option to add your email to a randomized drawing for 10 people to receive a hard copy of the STAR: Spiritual Themes Assessment and Reflection Field Experience/Practitioner Workbook (McGinnis, 2021).
